BCMEA Scholarship

The 2025 Scholarship Deadline is Thursday April 17, 2025 by 11:59PM.

The Broome County Music Educators Association has established a scholarship program to assist high school seniors who will be pursuing a college degree as a music major.

Auditions are held each spring. Applicants must be a member of a BCMEA participating school district and a member of their school’s music ensemble, per NYSSMA All-State guidelines.

A panel of judges will use the following criteria to assist in making their selections:

  • performance skills (in the audition)

  • two written recommendations

    • sponsor school music teacher from primary ensemble

    • private music teacher or another school music teacher

Auditions:

Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at MacArthur Elementary School.

The audition should be ten minutes in length and include two contrasting selections, from different styles or eras. While not required, it is preferred that the musician have an accompanist, unless they are a pianist. Pre-recorded accompaniment is accepted. Students can only audition on one instrument.

Upon selection, students will be notified in writing. Each student must then successfully complete one semester as a music major at the collegiate level and show proof of enrollment as a music major for the following semester. Proof will include a copy of the Fall transcript and Spring course schedule. Upon receipt of this documentation, the treasurer will issue the award checks to the scholarship winners in January of 2026.

Deadline:

All parts of the scholarship application (application of google forms, list of musical activities) must be electronically sent to Laura Hine by
